Jaguar X Art Basel 2024

Project Alpha Main

Jaguar approached The Factory to develop the centerpiece to their grad reveal of their new concept car during Art Basel in Miami, FL. The idea was that the car was “birthing” from a geological formation. Thus, to recreate this effect properly it would mean there we would have to design the impression of the vehicle into a faux rock like formation as if it were stamped into clay. This means I was designing the inverse of the car body which presented many challenges. I was given less than two weeks to develop and design rock formations. I decided to approach this via a loft kit which is commonly used in the marine industry to develop complex 3D geometry via 2D planes. The idea is to divide the compound geometry into a series of panels then have these panels fix to a cage like structure that would hold them in the proper place. Since the geometry was complex, we had to use an array of materials to achieve the proper effect. In order to fully encapsulate the car we had to make four unique rocks which also had to accommodate lighting and casters for transport. This project really pushed my limits regarding time management and stress management.
